Removing rear variator - need help

Post by lubba »

I'm trying to remove the rear variator, but I'm not sure how to do it.
I've removed the nut mounted on the top (as the pictures show), but what's next?
I've also tried what the last picture is showing, but it didn't work. Please help me.

Try using some very thin oil and slapping it with a hammer.

Thank you for your reply.
I did, using a rubber hammer like on the picture.
So it's just stuck because of rust and aging, and not because of other nuts, screws etc.?

Nope, I would try to support it on one side with something heavy, so that you do not damage the bearings (!!!), and give it a good wack with a steel hamer.

The propper way to do it:

Get a honda (or replica) pulley remover. If you look on the space where the nut sits in, you can see a thread. You attach the pulley remover at that thread, then turn the bolt inside, wich presses against the axis and pulls the pulley loose.

If you have a lathe at your disposal, you can easely make your own.

It will probably not work as the thread on the pulley seems damaged (actually, on the picture it seems to be completely missing)
